MyBeckett Scheduled Maintenance: Friday 23rd December 2016

We have been informed by our  Suppliers that the maintenance period scheduled for Friday 2nd December has been postponed following public pressure from many Institutions.

Our Suppliers have rescheduled this important security infrastructure upgrades to Friday 23rd December 2016 between 01:00 and 05:00 GMT.

During this maintenance window, MyBeckett Portal and VLE, Turnitin and Resource Lists will be unavailable.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this essential maintenance work and on behalf of our suppliers for the third rescheduling of the maintenance date.

TurnItIn planned maintenance – Saturday 5th November 2016

Our suppliers have informed us that TurnItIn will undergo scheduled system maintenance on Saturday 5th November from 13:00 (1pm) to 18:00 (6pm).

TurnItIn will be unavailable during this time and they have advised that if possible assignment due dates should be modified to be either before or after the scheduled maintenance window.

Adobe Connect Scheduled System Maintenance

Our Adobe Connect system will undergo planned maintenance on Friday 4th November 2016 for approximately 6 hours.

Maintenance Start: Friday 4th November 2016 at 19:00 GMT
Maintenance Finish: Saturday 5th November 2016 at 01:00 GMT

During this maintenance window the Adobe Connect system will be intermittently unavailable, and therefore should be considered ‘at risk’.

Google Drive Email Phishing Scam

We have been made aware of some fake Google Drive emails being received by staff that appear to be from legitimate senders .These are phishing emails designed to obtain your login credentials, from email addresses that have been compromised.

What you see, looks like you receive a genuine Google Drive email from one of your contacts, granting you access to a document stored in Google Drive. Click on the link and you’re taken to the normal Google Drive sign-in screen. Then, after entering your username and password, you’re asked to enter your verification.

We strongly advise checking with the colleague who apparently sent you the email, to verify that they have shared any Google drive document with you. Before acting on the email. Better yet, delete the email and then log into your Google Drive and click on the Shared with Me to find the document referred to in the email. If you do not find the document, then advise your colleague that their account has been compromised.

SlideShare and YouTube Mash-ups now available in MyBeckett

Following the upgrade to MyBeckett, the SlideShare and YouTube mash up tools are now working correctly again.

They were deprecated by Blackboard following changes made by Google which affected interoperability. Both tools have now been re-built to work with Google’s new programming interface.

We have been informed by our supplier that there is a known issue with playing a YouTube video in full screen from within a module page and they are working to resolved this asap. In the meantime, there is a workaround if required:

  1. Click the Share arrow in the upper-right corner of the player
  2. Click the YouTube link to open the page in YouTube in a separate window
  3. Click on the full screen button

Maintenance Start: Friday 19th August 2016 from 21:00 BST
Maintenance Finish: Saturday 20th August 2016 at 03:00 BST

During this maintenance window the Adobe Connect system may be intermittently available, and therefore should be considered ‘at risk’.

New Adobe Connect Add-In Now Available

Our Supplier has advised us that a new Adobe Connect Add-In is now available, and we would recommend that you upgrade your Add-In  as soon as possible.

After the 17th June 2016, the Add-In will be required. And you will be asked to install the new Add-in when:

• You try to start/join a 9.5.3 meeting for the first time after June 17, 2016 and have an older version of the Add-in installed

OR

• You invoke screen sharing, application sharing, or share PowerPoint (PPTX format) files and do not have the new version of Add-in installed

We ave been advised that the Add-in corrects some visual issues and issues for Surface Pro users. For more details on the Add-in update, please see the Adobe Connect 9.5.3 Add-in release notes.

The Add-In can be downloaded on both personal equipment and University equipment. Please see our guidance for Windows and for Mac for further information.

STAFF ONLY – MyBeckett Modules for 2016/17

2016/17 Modules available

All credit-bearing 2016/17 modules have been created.

Non-credit modules will be available from Wednesday 29 June.

Students will not be enrolled on 2016/17 modules until Monday 8 August.

2016/17 course groups will be available from Tuesday 9 August (Updated)

 

I can’t see a module I’m teaching on. What should I do?

If a student administrator has attached you to the module in Banner, you should already be able to see it in your module list.

If you can’t see it, then you haven’t been attached in Banner. You can use our self-service tool to attach yourself provided you know the CRN (a student administrator will be able to provide this if you don’t know it.)

 

There’s no content in my module. What should I do?

If it’s essentially the same module as last year, please see our guide to copying content. Important: TurnItIn assignments should not be re-used and should instead be created from scratch. You should also check any adaptive release rules you’ve set up on content that’s been copied over.

Once you’ve copied your content over, it’s well worth re-ordering your content items in the navigation menu and checking that content you wish to show students is not hidden.

PebblePad Mobile App now available

PebblePad have just released a mobile app called Pebble Pocket that is available now through the Apple and Android stores.

The app  will allow PebblePad users to create assets on their smartphone or tablet offline and then send the assets to the their  PebblePad account when  connected to a WiFi signal (or if data allowances allowed – assets can be uploaded over 3G).

Assets that can be created include: Post, Reflection, and Activity. Users can also upload an image or video taken with their device.

The app is free to download and when prompted you should log in using your normal PC username and password.
